A free seminar on Community Power Co-ops and Solar Garden Programs. November 28. Come hear about the vibrant, growing movement enabling community-‐based and community-‐owned renewable energy programs. Since 1998 the Toronto Renewable Energy Co-‐op has been a leader in this movement. Its accomplishments include a 660kW wind turbine owned by 400 small investors, 600 kW of current distributed generaIon solar projects, and an on-‐going venture to establish a 20 MW community owned wind farm.
“We need to start enabling communities to participate directly in projects that are in their backyards. ... the resources are local and should be there for the benefit of the local communities. Co-‐ops are a good mechanism to do that, ...this model has been tried and tested.”
How do these co-‐ops work? What is are Solar Gardens? How can we solarize our energy portfolio? How can we develop truly community-‐based energy projects in Alberta?
