Gridworks 5-Day PV Design and Installation Course is a monthly, CSA Recognized, Hands-on, Grid-Connected Solar Training course. The instructors are all Red Seal Journeyman Electricians with over 20 years of experience directly related to the PV industry. Our course is designed from the ground up around safety, industry best practices, manufacturer recommendations, Canadian Electrical Code, and field experience.
Not an electrician? No problem! Our course provides the basic electrical theory required to get a head start in this field. Engineer, SCOs, architects, and home owners have all found great value in learning all aspects of the PV industry through our course.
After covering the theory required, multiple examples and samples are worked through to ensure a deep understanding of the material. Class discussion is also a valuable source of additional knowledge and experience from other industries with PV installations.
As a Red Seal Journeyman Electrician, our course is an accredited CSA preparation course for the Construction Electrician (NOC 7241) Solar Photovoltaic (PV) Systems (SPVC) Certification. Once complete, you can register to get this certification through CSA.
The main course objectives are:
• Provide an introduction to renewable energy
• Describe various PV systems and their components
• Explain operation of modules and electrical characteristics
• Go through a site assessment including shade analysis
• Describe common installation methods on various surfaces
• Explain the theory of both grid-connected and off-grid systems
• Size and design multiple grid-connected PV systems
• Size and design multiple off-grid PV systems
• Utilize the Canadian Electrical Code to install systems safely
• Commission, troubleshoot, and perform maintenance on a PV system
• Properly utilize the OH&S Act, Code, and Regulation during installations
• Design and install a 1.5kW string inverter system
• Design and install a 1.5kW micro inverter system
